"What is the best diet? Can dieting be bad for you?" 2009-04-18
By Maria Thomen (Dominican Republic)
Nowadays, there are a lot of diets that claim to be the be-all and the end-all. This book demystifies many popular diets and explains in simple terms what your body needs for you to be healthy.

When I was told I had to lose 30 pounds, I thought of going to a doctor to avoid damaging my health by cutting necessary nutrients out of my intake. Then my own doctor told me the only way to lose weight is to eat less. That and exercise seem to be the key to fitness and weight loss. Anybody with a serious weight problem should see a specialist. And it has often been said that before you begin a diet and /or exercise plan you should see a doctor.

 "NOT A SECRET FORMULA" 2008-09-18
By Delaney (WI)
This information in here is not a secret formula. However, it is important information and it is well grounded information that you should put into effect in your life.

If you've read a million diet books, this one is not going to give you surprise information. However, this book is not about propaganda and getting you to buy the latest whacky gadget to bend you in half and flip you over. This book will tell you how and why diets do and don't work. It will tell you what you need to do to be at your best.

What will you get, really good information on how to live your life healthfully. I refer to this book often and I have purchased it and given it to people who are struggling with getting their lives in order. This book simply makes sense, and there isn't anything in here involving hype and gimmicks. I checked this book out from my library first and decided that I wanted this information on hand and so I bought it. This book also talks about eating disorders, the difference between well known diets, different approaches to weight loss. It is more than worth the read. This book will help you find the sanity in dieting.

Dieting for Dummies is a simplistic look at diets. Just skimming through the book you can get an idea of how to get on a diet, by cutting calories and all. The book is set up in an easy to read fashion (like other Dummy books) A good overview of dieting.

"A Grand Piece of Intelligence Restriction" 2010-01-05
By Heavenly Roses (CA United States)
You just can't believe everything that appears today as "science". This is a grand work of epidemiological junk. I am an epidemiologist with 3 university degrees. I have also been an athlete all of my life, running in 12 marathons and nearly breaking 3 hours in the marathon. This is to ensure some reasonable measure of credibility for what I will be saying. The "CR" (calorie restriction) method is not based upon verifiable science, but is an experiment without adequate and convincing controls.

Recently (Chemical and Engineering News, August 3, 2009), published an article/study by these authors showing two 27-year old rhesus monkeys (Owen and Eeyore) -- one on the CR diet for 20 years (Eeyore... who is "pretty") and one on an unrestricted diet for 20 years (poor "Owen" who does not have the benefit of his comparator's "pretty" Western look). If you look at the two rhesus monkeys side-by-side, you can see that the monkey fed a calorie restricted (CR) diet appears physically "prettier" than the rhesus monkey fed an unrestricted diet. In fact the picture even states "which monkey looks older?" So what's to convince?? This is a bogus experiment! First of all, the two rhesus monkeys are living in an aberration of nature -- in confinement (prison) and under human control. Second of all - in spite of the difference in physical "beauty", both may be psychologically unhappy and an adequate measurement of their unhappiness and quite possibly neurosis and/or psychosis is not identified. They are both "prisoners of science" and captives of a poorly orchestrated food experiment administered under the guise of "science". Third, given the conditions of being caged, the monkey fed more food might be eating merely to compensate for his grossly unhappy conditions, and the poor "prettier" monkey who is fed the "restricted calorie" diet may be even more unhappy psychologically than the other monkey - this is not evaluated. Had they provided an equally aberrant condition for yet a third or fourth "control" monkey, they might have found that one preferred carrots and oranges over other calorie dense foods, and yet the other might have preferred a diet rich in heroine and/or cocaine to self-medicate throughout his miserable, caged existence. But we only have poor Owen and Eeyore as the sole victims of the "scientific" research. The minute they extracted these poor monkeys from their natural environment and fed or did not feed them "The CR Way" for 20 years, there was no adequate "control" in their experiment, least of all the "control" they considered poor Eeyore to be. Good epidemiological studies (that would provide the 80% power required for significant findings) usually require at least 10 subjects per each variable in the study. Placing monkeys in an artificial, captive environment is already one variable. Altering the diet is at least one (most likely more than one) variable, and quantity of diet is another variable. For a convincing, sound, viable epidemiological study one would need a bare minimum of 30 or 40 subjects, and these subjects should be humans, not monkeys, as the target is human health.

These monkeys may be the most miserable monkeys on planet Earth - but of course this is not the goal of the "experiment"... the goal of the experiment was to prove that caloric restriction has a rosier, physically prettier outcome. I have learned in my university education that a true scientific experiment asks a question and then seeks to find the answer. In this case, the researchers had a predisposed answer to their question - and they created the conditions that justified their preconceived answer: you will look beautiful if you live "The CR Way"! They neglect to tell you that you can look (and more importantly FEEL) good if you merely follow a lifestyle that you already know is true: (1) Get plenty of exercise every day; (2) eat a balanced diet that is not extreme and contains plenty of fruits and vegetables; (3) get lots of sleep each day (minimum of 7-8 hours if possible); (4) get regular checkups and preventive medical procedures; (5) increase joy and reduce stress with whatever activities of daily living help you (reading, writing, crafts, yes cooking, and taking wonderful care of your children and pets, etc.)

The point is: if BOTH monkeys lived a healthy, active life -- living in the wild with adequate exercise, healthy familial conditions and support, normal prey-predator conditions, and natural diet variations, they BOTH might look quite similar regardless of caloric intake! Their experiment creates artificial conditions that might make anybody look like a sad, homely, prematurely old, overweight monkey! The minute these "researchers" move the poor monkeys into the "scientific" prison in which they live, these researchers have ceased to create adequate controls for their aberrant diet experiments. I find this both unprofessional and epidemiologically disgusting in terms of study design and outcome -- really disgusting!

Sound epidemiological studies minimize the monochromatic nature of a narrow and limited study such as this one. What is typical of this "CR Way" is a complete lack of depth and understanding of the many intricacies, delicacies, and interconnectivity of human health. For instance, when humans or other mammals are stressed (again, experimentally or naturally) the immediate response is secretion of cortisol (our "fight or flight" stress hormone). An excess of cortisol production in our bodies suppresses our immune system by killing our T-cells. T-cells are also killed by anesthesia, chemotherapy, lack of adequate sleep, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), cortisone injections (which, I might add, is why athletes that use steroids are also at increased of cancer and/or infectious diseases) and other immune-suppressing infectious diseases and/or treatments. T-cells are necessary for killing virally infected cells and cancer cells in our bodies. If we are stressed (either acute or chronic, long-term stress) our T-cell population is therefore reduced, and in turn this puts us at a much greater risk of (1) infectious diseases and/or (2) cancers. The artificial stress of not eating after 1:00pm each day can create an unreasonable amount of continuing, chronic, and unresolved stress to any mammal, thus putting any human or other mammal at increased risk of infectious or chronic disease. Humans are not monkeys -- we are also complex, sensitive mammals that do not need to have more stress added to our busy and already overburdened lives by inducing an unnatural state of hunger each and every day of what should be a beautifully balanced and harmonious life. We cannot all live happily with such a rigid and sterile diet regimen - this creates yet another level of artificial stress that is just plain foolish and outrageous hogwash from authors that lust after a fountain of youth.

Also -- while much of the world is experiencing varying levels of hunger and/or malnutrition (some areas of our world are experiencing extreme hunger and premature death via malnutrition and starvation), I find this book a miserable example of western diet/weight/beauty overindulgence, physical appearance narcissism, and arrogance. Humans should be living their lives to the fullest and not practicing extremism in weight-loss and diet perversions. This book is a pathetic substitute for merely educating people about the basics of a healthy, long life (as above): (1) Get plenty of exercise every day; (2) eat a balanced diet that is not extreme and contains plenty of fruits and vegetables; (3) get lots of sleep each day (minimum of 7-8 hours if possible); (4) get regular checkups and preventive medical procedures; (5) increase joy and reduce stress with whatever activities of daily living help you (reading, writing, crafts, yes cooking, and taking wonderful care of your children and pets, etc.) These concepts date back to the days of Plato and Aristotle -- these concepts of how to live a healthy life are not new! Plato extolled the virtues of a balance in athleticism, physical activity, intellectual pursuits, and healthy wholesome diets. Many ancient cultures realized the important balance and harmony of all of these areas of life and to live a well-integrated life that is not extreme in any one area - thus a life that is not "out of balance" with oneself and our lovely natural world.

Unfortunately, these researchers are attempting to create scientific evidence where none truly exists - this book is a hoax written by affluent authors who have no clue what it is like to experience real hunger and/or starvation in life. Not eating after 1:00pm every day is ridiculous and stresses the body tremendously - I would not do this to anybody, man nor beast! The insulin response to food intake is one that is mediated over time and requires a careful, balanced, and consistent diet to maintain a healthy, consistent glucose vs. insulin level in the body. Hunger - contrived or natural - is not a nice thing to do to anybody - humans or other animals. When the body does not have an adequate source of glucose, your body will break down not only fat, but organs and muscle tissue to achieve its required goal of energy production. "The CR Way" should find its way to the nearest recycle bin (and please have a beautiful walk getting to the community recycle center so that it will be even more worth your while when you place "The CR Way" into the bin!) If you want to look and feel beautiful and live a long and happy life, keep up the exercise (as much as possible), sleep well, eat a balanced diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and whole, unprocessed foods, get regular medical checkups and procedures, and enjoy spending time with your beautiful family and pets.

It takes only 13 weeks—three months—one season—and you're on your way to permanent, healthy weight loss. Based on the Glycemic Index, and developed by Rick Gallop, author of the New York Times bestselling G.I. Diet, The G.I. Diet Clinic is a complete weight-loss plan that incorporates recipes, meal plans—from breakfast through a late-night snack—motivational techniques and tips, and the inspirational real life stories of dozens of participants from G.I. Diet online workshops, where the average dieter lost 26 pounds—in 13 weeks!

The claim to the G.I. Diet has always been its simplicity: If you can follow a traffic light, you can follow the diet. What Gallop does in The G.I. Diet Clinic is show not only how the specifics of the diet work, but how to survive, enjoy, and ultimately embrace a new way of eating. With a different chapter for each week, Gallop covers meal planning, and how to convert a family's favorite foods into "green light" dishes. He writes about behavior change and what to do when temptation's too strong and you temporarily fall off the wagon; here, the combination of insightful tips (distract yourself with an activity; pinpoint the exact flavor you want) and encouraging comments from fellow dieters really helps. And he discusses exercise, dining out, unrealistic expectations, emotional eating, and "the plateau"— how to stay focused and motivated enough to cross it.

Included are 65 delicious green-light recipes, from Oatmeal Buttermilk Pancakes, Rigatoni with Mini Meatballs, and Mushroom-and-Gravy Pork Chops to Apple Raspberry Coffee Cake and Pecan Brownies. That’s right: brownies.

 "Not for busy singles" 2008-12-05
By TheCafeWriter (Chicago, IL USA)
I have no problem with the content per se. The diet itself with the red/yellow/green light layout is easy to understand. However, like all of Mr. Gallop's other books, this is very, very recipe-oriented, and with the exception of omelets and salads, nearly all the other recipes are for at least 4 people. That's fine if you're cooking for a family and your evening schedule is somewhat leisurely. For busy singles - or even the rushed family member eating solo - who just want to assemble a quick meal, there's no alternatives offered in any of the menu plans. The author assumes that you're always cooking for 4 people, at least two, and sometimes 6 or 8. His premise is that you have more time to spend cooking each and every night. (Frankly, if that were the case, I wouldn't have needed books like Mr. Gallop's in the first place.)

I like his approach, but it's just not just user-friendly for busy singles, hence the lower stars.

I was given this book as a gift after I had started the GI diet. I find myself time and time again going back to my favorite recipes in this book. My favorites include the black bean burritos, strawberry tea bread, carrot muffins, tortilla chips, Mediterranean summer salad, black bean tabbouleh, falafel with yogurt mint sauce, barley risotto, coconut curry beef, bacon and egg muffins, and apple burritos. Can you tell I love this cookbook?

I find a lot of great recipes that fix my cravings for ethnic foods and just as many that fit the bill for your basic American fare. I would recommend this cookbook to anyone, not just those trying to lose weight. It has very sensible and delicious recipes that are easy to follow and turn out great.

Gene Smart is so much more than a diet book. It's scientifically based nutritional guidance on the key nutrients your body needs to avoid disease and stay healthy so you can enjoy life! Dr. Chilton helps you understand why we crave certain foods, why we overeat, why the USA is getting more and more over weight - and what the solution is to stop the obesity train wreck. By working with our genetic code, we can get healthy and help our kids get healthy before it's too late.

I've never read such specific information on each of the Omega 3s and Omega 6s. I knew that consuming each of the Omega 3 oils was important, (which the book confirms) but I thought all types of Omega 6 needed to be decreased in the diet. The book explains that it's the Omega 6 oil, Linolaic Acid (LA), that we all get too much of. However, the Omega 6 oil, Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), is essential to promote health in many ways. Decreasing inflammation is so important and I'm glad that the author shares with us the science to back up why this is true (and he provides practical steps on how you can decrease inflammation through diet and exercise). We've all heard the BUZZ about how polyphenols are anti-aging - now we can see the research and know that it's worth it to start consuming more polyphenols through whole foods and supplementation. His website [...] is also a great resource for health tips, practical dieting advice, recipes and much more. I highly recommend this book!

I read this prior to attending a seminar by the author. The book is great, and explains the basics. Combined with the seminar - it really makes sense once you understand the theory of keeping a natural balance. I learned many more things to do to maintain balance in the seminar that are not in the book. If the book makes sense to you, I recommend attending the seminar for additional info, or reading from the authors web site for more info.

There are 29 of us (of a hatha yoga class) reading and reviewing this book together this summer (2008) as a summer read project. We have begun about 3 weeks ago, implementing the suggestions to diet, lifestyle, eating patterns. We meet weekly and share ideas and cover new chapter(s)in the book. Difficult to predict what will happen by the end of the summer, but one participant has already completed the book, implemented the practices recommendations and another participant has already lost 4 pounds. Our main target is not weight loss though, but improving overall health. I would recommend this book as a good study group book, an introduction into Ayurveda, it is delivered in western terms without all the Indian words and terms so that the average westerner who is not necessarily not on spiritual path (per se) can grasp the velevance a improve their daily health regimen. We are starting very soon to cook in the sessions, learning to make ghee, buying Indian dal and mung bean in gross and dividing it up, etc. learning a different approach to food prep and healthy nutuition rich foods and eating.

Of all the books I have in my bookcase, this is the one I hold as pivotal in transforming my health. It is a process transitioning into an 80/10/10 lifestyle, but it truly is soo worth it. It has completely changed my life and made me healthier physically, mentally, emotionally. There is literally no book I could recommend more than this one. And, by the way, Dr. Graham does recommend eating 1 lb of greens for men daily and just under for the average woman. That equates to about 1 head of leafy greens each day. Also, there is fat included,as this is a lowfat vegan lifestyle, not a no-fat vegan lifestyle! (For any person who does not get it!). As a raw vegan, you have the choice. You either get most of your calories from fats, or you get them from fruits. Greens do not provide enough calories and carbs alone, but they are essential for minerals. Fruits have the vitamins, greens have the minerals. Buy this book and also check out Dr. Graham's FoodnSport website. I wish I could give this book 80/10/10 stars!

Dr. Graham's 80/10/10 program is the most intelligent and healthy approach to the vegan lifestyle I have ever practiced. I wish I had discovered this marvelous and very important book sooner than I had. I have been recommending it to so many for over a year now and can't believe I have failed to review it until now. I realize this is more a testimony than a book review but I feel it is important to share the positive impact the 80/10/10 Diet has had on my life.

I have been a vegan for almost 30 years now and for 10 of those years I followed the lowfat vegan diet of Dr. John McDougal. The McDougal diet served me well until the Spring of 2000 when I became aware of the raw vegan diet some of my friends were following. After a few of their raw food potlucks and a lot of their enthusiasm and encouragement, I was sold. I started out with a few of the Boutenko Family books, then some others, and when I was ready to commit to the raw life style, went out and bought a dehydrator, a high speed blender, a new food processor and I was on my way.

After being a disciplined vegan for so many years, I didn't have any difficulty "going" raw except for one and that was making the adjustment to the tremendous amount of fats I then began consuming. Up until going raw, my diet was squeaky clean. I ate very little avocado, nuts, coconut, seeds. My use of oils was very judicious. Shortly after going raw however, it seemed like my digestive system went into shock. I was already suffering from a debilitating chronic illness; my new digestive problems only exacerbated it. Even though I had an intuition about the high fats, the poor food combining, the dehydrated foods, I wouldn't let myself believe that the raw diet was failing me until my health grew so poor I became disabled and my doctor advised me (among other things of course) to modify my diet. I ate nothing but steamed brown rice and veggies for a year. I was very sick; my diet depressing.

I really believe in the raw philosophy though and wanted badly to return to a raw diet, providing I could make it lowfat. I needed help and wanted science and sound nutrition to back me up. I did a Google search for lowfat raw vegan and came across Dr. Graham's 80/10/10 program. I was thrilled. His book was everything I was looking for and it made so much sense to me ~ all those light bulbs went on in my brain again!

As it turned out, Dr. Graham's 80/10/10 diet saved me! After three months of following the diet I saw a dramatic improvement in my fragile health. I felt stronger and my spirits were lifting. Eventually I gained the weight I desparately needed (doctor's orders that I get to at least 100 lbs and I did), my osteoporosis improved by 2 points, I no longer suffered with candidiasis, and my stomach and intestines were healing! Even my doctor noticed how I was thriving on my new 80/10/10 diet and blessed me for it. (That's quite something coming from a traditional MD!)

I am still chronically ill but somehow know I would be much worse off if I did not eat as well as I do now following the 80/10/10 guidelines. That thought is a huge comfort to me. My diet is one thing I can do for myself while trying to live with a debilitating illness.

So now at long last I must give The 80/10/10 Diet the 5 stars from me that it so richly deserves. I can't measure the praise I have for Dr. Doug Graham.

You will need to ring 911 if you do this diet.

However, after much of my own research and witnessing people do this diet for myself, including friends and family, (one of them even met with Doug Graham), I have come to the conclusion that if you are in the UK you should ring 999 instead.

Can you really lose twenty pounds in a month? Will you really keep it off this time? With The Rice Diet Solution, you will! The Rice Diet Program has been helping dieters successfully lose weight since 1939. Now in book form, this world-renowned weight-loss method can help you change the way you eat forever.

The Rice Diet Program in Durham, North Carolina, was one of the first medical facilities in America to use diet as the primary way to treat disease. On this high-complex-carb, low-fat, and low-sodium whole-foods diet, "Ricers" lose weight faster, more safely, and more effectively than people on any other diet. Men lose on average twenty-eight to thirty pounds and women on average nineteen to twenty pounds per month! The Rice Diet also detoxes your body, ridding it of excess water weight and toxins from processed foods and the environment. The program's results have been documented by extensive studies and confirmed by thousands of people who report amazing weight loss, as well as immediate improve-ment in such conditions as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. After all the other diets out there have failed them, people find that the Rice Diet is the one that finally works -- for good.

Here's how it works: The Rice Diet strictly limits salt and sodium-rich ingredients. Salt, like refined sugar, is an appetite stimulant, so when you reduce salt intake, you lose water weight and are less inclined to overeat. The Rice Diet also limits saturated fats and instead relies on carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans) as the main source of nutrition. The fiber cleanses your system and satisfies you so you feel full quickly. The Rice Diet makes it easy to limit calories; when you're eating foods that truly satisfy your hunger, it's a challenge to eat 1,500 calories per day!

To make it easy to follow the program, The Rice Diet Solution includes hundreds of tasty, filling, easy-to-prepare recipes -- some from the Rice House kitchen, others inspired by major chefs and adapted to Rice Diet standards.

The Rice Diet is not just an eating plan. It's a physical, emotional, and spiritual program that will change the way you live, giving you new vitality, energy, and longevity. Ricers report that the Rice Diet not only helps them solve weight problems they've struggled with their whole lives but also teaches them a whole new way of healthier, more mindful living.

Whether you want to lose twenty pounds or two hundred, the Rice Diet can help you do it -- finally and forever.

I purchased this book with the intent of losing a little weight. I went on my version of the rice diet because the real deal cost too much. I lost thirty pounds in seven weeks which is amazing for me. I would recommend this for anyone that can use it. Check with your doctor first if you have health problems.

"Not the most useful diet" 2009-01-11
By Jamie Teal (Worcester, MA)
The title of the book seems unrelated the diet plan itself. To me the main emphasis appears to be on eliminating salt from your diet. This is supposed to make the food less appealing, but I think the main thing it will do is keep you from retaining water which will cause you to lose water weight in the first week. I was not impressed.

"If You Have Hypertension You Need to Be DASHING" 2009-09-10
By D. Cooper (Oakland, CA United States)
Hypertension kills. Suffering a stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure, or damage to your eyes should be enough to get anyone to change their bad habits and get their lifestyle on track with the DASH diet. There is nothing difficult about eating fresh fruits instead of cookies or candy, and making fresh salads and cooking fresh vegetables instead of opening up a can of soggy, sodium laden mush passing as food.

Believe it or not, I told MY doctor about the DASH diet when I first got diagnosed with high blood pressure about 10 years ago. She'd never heard of it. I was only 34 but African Americans seem to have a higher rate of hypertension than any other ethnic group. My blood pressure was an unbelievable 170/110 but I had no symptoms at all. Fearful of medications, but even more fearful of dying, I looked for an alternative solution that would provide fast results, and happened across the DASH study results.

I ordered two booklets from the NHLB website and started changing my life.

When I went back for a checkup a month later, my blood pressure had dropped an amazing 32 points systolic and was within the normal range of 138/85. She was stunned and ran from the room with the booklet I gave her to show other doctors in the office. They were in disbelief and actually came in to talk to me about the program. My blood pressure continued to drop once I got a better handle on sodium and liquor intake until it reached normal where it now stays unless I go off on a tangent too many days in a row.

This was accomplished without any medication, just a steely determination to live which meant giving up things I shouldn't have been eating anyway. The book is great because it goes into a great deal of explanation and provides menu ideas to get you started.

If you can't afford to order the book right now, at least look on the web and review the online documents which support changing your eating habits per the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The DASH diet saved my life.

"The DASH Diet for Hypertension" 2009-08-23

This book has some interesting, informative and useful information. However, many pages part of the type has been omitted. It's usually one or two characters per line. Usually you are able to figure out what the word(s) is supposed to be but this makes reading and using the book difficult. Needless to say, it's not a book that you look forward to using.

"Great value for the price." 2009-07-05
By V. Brooks (Seattle, WA USA)
This is a fantastic book and the price is excellent, It is the most comprehensive "dash diet" book I have read. It is well organized. The table of contents and the index makes it easy to go back to pages that need to be reviewed. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to lower their blood pressure and lose weight.

"This booked helped me " 2009-01-28
By Richard Hamilton (Edgartown, MA USA)
The Dash Diet For Hypertension was the book that I purchased after a routine physical in December determined that I had hypertension. I have reduced my sodium intake, and followed the diet suggestions- and five weeks later have low-normal blood pressure, and I have lost 3 pounds as well. I have reduced my intake of meats, fats and refined sugar, I eat a larger percentage of fruits, grains and vegetables, and use salt very judiciously in cooking, usually no more than half of what is called for.

"Nothing you can't learn for free" 2008-10-31
By L. Wick
The DASH diet is well documented online. Ordinarily I would say that the price of the book is justified by having the information brought together and organized, but this book fails so very badly at that job. The information is in fact poorly organized, surprisingly so. The book is in every sense unappealing, with bad typography, irritating language and a feeling of having been thrown together with no thought or effort. As for the diet itself, it works wonderfully and can play a big part in your fight against hypertension. But this book is a terrible place to learn about it.

 "Anti inflammation Diet" 2009-07-29

I think this book is a pretty comprehensive overview of the role that diet and inflammation can play with your body. I have found it very helpful. Haven't tried any of the recipes yet but plan to. A good start.

 "Wonderful! Very informative!" 2009-05-06
By E. Pennington (Carmi, IL United States)
I was just diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and so I purchased this book to help me figure out exactly what I should be eating to keep the internal inflammation down. It helped me tremendously! I had no idea that some foods actually cause inflammation and guess what? I was eating way too many of those...hence a gallon of milk a week. Before reading this book, I had no idea that inflammation causes you to be fat, bloated, and have actual pain. I didn't know that white foods (rice, sugar, pasta, white bread and milk) should be avoided. Or that any kind of "itus" (like arthritus) is an inflammation problem. This text heightened my awareness and has improved my quality of life. Just keep in mind, it really is a lifestyle and not a diet.

I too was very disappointed... I was looking for detailed research and information about diet and inflammation... What I got was basic nutrition information... Eat more veggies and fruit, whole grains, eliminate junk food, eliminate hydrogenated fats, eat more poly unsaturated fats.... lower salt, increase omega 3s...exercise and reduce stress YEH YEH....

Great book for beginners but if you have long ago given up Mc Donalds, coke and junk food this book is not for you.
