This cat food is especially for cats with urinary problems and it has worked great for our cat. It is a little bit more expensive than buying it at Kroger, but having it delivered a case at a time is worth it.

I purchased these on the special Friday sale where they were $7.99 for 3 cans. At the store where I normally shop here one can is almost $5 so this was a fantastic deal. I liked how they were lightly salted and not as salty as alot of nuts are.

I agree with the other review that they were mostly almonds. Id say 60% almonds, 30% cashews and 10% macadamias but they were still quite good.

These are good nuts, very lightly salted, just the way we like them.

But, they are almost all almonds.

A little disappointed with that. I was hoping they would be an equal mix of all the three variety of nuts.

For years, Elisabeth Hasselbeck couldn't figure out what was making her sick. She asked doctors and consulted nutritionists, but no one seemed to have any answers. It wasn't until spending time in the Australian Outback, living off the land on the grueling Survivor TV show, that, ironically, her symptoms vanished. Returning home, she pinpointed the food that made her sick -- gluten, the binding element in wheat. By simply eliminating it from her diet, she was able to enjoy a completely normal, healthy life. But that wasn't all. Hasselbeck discovered the myriad benefits that anyone can enjoy from a gluten-free diet: from weight loss and increased energy to even the alleviation of the conditions of autism.

In this all-inclusive book, Hasselbeck shares her hard-earned wisdom on living life without gluten and loving it. She gives you everything you need to know to start living a gluten-free life, from defining gluten - where to find it, how to read food labels - to targeting gluten-free products, creating G-Free shopping lists, sharing recipes, and managing G-Free living with family and friends.

"So helpful! A perfect guide and plenty of Q&A's answered!" 2010-01-15
By Melissa May
I thought this book was completely amazing and unbelievably helpful. I just found out that I have celiac disease, and despite the info from my doctor, I still had no idea what I was in for. Once I read this book, I looked at it as sort of a guide to help me with G-Free living, and while it has still been a challenge, it has defiantly helped make my life easier!

"A helpful guide to Celiac Disease" 2010-01-06
By Ed Sullivan (NYC)
I noticed this book in Borders one day while looking for a nutrition related book.

I, like her had worsening intestinal problems for quite a few years which no doctor had diagnosed correctly, this book was the answer to those problems, all the weird stuff happening to me, constant stomach pain, headaches, fatigue etc. etc. were all related and caused by one thing, Gluten Intolerence.

I started a whole new diet, having to cook more and give up some of my favorite foods wasn't easy, but I was so desperate I think I'd have given up oxygen by that point if I had to.

Within a few weeks I was a whole different person, no pain, more energy and getting a full night of sleep for the first time in years.

There are other books on Amazon on the same subject, and I recommend getting a few of them if you have Celiac or just want to avoid gluten.

Thank-You Elizabeth!!!

"A good book to start with for those with celiac disease and others just starting to look for gluten free diet information" 2010-01-01
By Redlady (http://redladysreadingroom-redlady.blogspot.com/)
I have had The G-Free Diet: A Gluten Free Survival Guide by Elisabeth Hasselbeck on my bookshelf for several months and had to find the right time to read this book. Ms. Hasselbeck is well known as a co-host on The View and has been outspoken about her journey with celiac disease. Elisabeth found herself sick, starting in college and couldn't figure out what was the cause of her illness. She consulted numerous doctors and specialists but not one was able to help her determine the cause of her stomach problems and illness. She was a contestant on the TV show Survivor, with a very limited diet and was able to pinpoint her health problems to wheat and ultimately gluten. She had to be her own advocate and ended up diagnosing herself and finally found a specialist in Celiac Disease that did further testing to confirm the diagnosis.

In the G- Free Diet Hasselback shares how she learned to adjust her lifestyle to a gluten free life. She shares her experiences and suggestions throughout the book from what exactly gluten is to how to read food labels, finding gluten-free products, how to grocery shop effectively, adapt recipes, how to manage G-Free living with family and friends and more. This is a great book for the beginner and it includes extensive lists of products and restaurants that are G-Free.

The G- Free Diet focuses primarily on celiac disease but it also highlights other health conditions that may benefit from changing to a gluten free diet. Such conditions as arthritis, diabetes and even autism. There are many parents who have found significant improvement with their children with autism after changing their diets to a gluten and casein free diet. There is a chapter that discusses this in the book. I have several friends who have children with autism who follow this type of diet. They have found it has made a significant improvement in their children's lives.

I decided it was the perfect time to read this book as I am researching a gluten free diet for my son. y son has major food allergies, with peanuts and tree nuts being the worst as they are life threatening. He also has many other food allergies and lactose intolerance. We are researching some changes in his diet as we believe he may be sensitive to gluten and feel that it may be beneficial to try a diet change. The G- Free Diet will be a good resource to use if we decide to go down this road of becoming gluten free. I found many suggestions that were familiar to me with already having a child with food allergies. I am constantly on alert and checking food labels, checking with manufacturers and careful about foods that my son eats at school and at restaurants.

The G- Free Diet would be a good resource to start with if you, your child or family member has been diagnosed with celiac disease or needs to follow a gluten free diet. Hasselback is a prime example to many that you often need to be your own advocate and research information yourself to get answers. This is not to say that anyone can self diagnose themselves accurately, you should always confirm this with a medical professional. I feel that the book is more geared toward the newly diagnosed and the person who has learned to live a G-free lifestyle may already be familiar with this information. I would have liked to have more information from a medical doctor added as an additional chapter or addendum to explain the medical issues. Also, the professional advice added from a nutritional point of view by a medical doctor and/or nutritionist would have been an added bonus.

I soooo wanted to really love this item, as I enjoy anything that makes my life a little bit easier. I like the concept of it, and do think it's an excellent idea, but feel there are still bugs needing to be worked out of the system.

The voice recognition really isn't the best, even on basic food staples. I mean how can it fail to find milk? But mine doesn't seem to be able to. Even the list of "suggested" items when it can't find the milk is odd in and of itself. I mean "pretzels" nowhere resembles milk linguistically so why does the machine suggest it as a "did you mean this?" item substitute. So then I go to the enhance voice recognition option. I'm clear, concise and articulate, and yet it STILL can't seem to recognize the item, which leads me to believe this option doesn't work at all. I'm constantly having to look up items in the library and add them manually. Kind of defeats the purpose of having this nifty little machine don't you think? While that's not a huge hassle, it still bites because you end up spending more time trying to input on the darn thing, when the process should have been as easy as hit the record button and add your item.

I do like the fact you can keep two lists, and it will print your grocery list by category, saving you from having to double back and retrace your steps because you forgot an item clear back on aisle 9. Maybe the next generation will be better.

In my experience, this is a very poor item and not worth half the price. It comes with very limited vocabulary, no sub-catagories for general food classifications and poor voice recognition.

It has a fast printer and the list it prints out is easy to read.

 "Horrible Product" 2010-01-06
By David C. Stevens
I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my wife, who this product seemed ideally suited for. (i.e. She makes two long grocery lists each week for some complicated and delectable dinners.) The features seemed ideal and, with a price this high it seemed more than a toy. Well, it was LESS than a toy. Voice recognition might as well not be listed as a feature. The display screen went blank the second time we used it and a call to Smartshopper's technical support (sounded like someone working in their basement) could offer no advice. I printed two short lists and the type was barely legible on the left-hand side of the print out. There is no way to enter a grocery list with a keyboard (well, one which made sense anyway). This device is a piece of junk and I recommended that Amazon drop it (and Smartshopper) from any product offering in the future. DO NOT BUY THIS!

This works very well for us, but like some users, the voice recognition is not as good as we would like. The thing you have to remember is that you cannot just say "tomatoes." You have to say "canned tomatoes" or "fresh tomatoes." It has been really helpful to us so far.

I bought this for my wife as a Christmas gift. We were both excited. After 3 minutes out of the box it stopped working. The display went blank and that was it. Removing and replacing the batteries and performing a unit reset for a "lock up" according to documentation would not fix the problem. Disappointing gift.

The product works well. The voice recognition isn't the best but you can make modifications. Only complaint I have is the organization of the printed list. The printout by category is confusing when shopping since some items in a single category are found in multiple aisles. You can alter the list to match your grocery stores aisles, but I find that to be too time consuming. I would like to be able to print a list alphabetically. Over all I'm satisfied with the smartshopper.

This went of real big right off. As advertised, it took a bit to get the machine to understand all the requests and it was neat that it gave some alternatives when it was not sure what was being said. This was a present for someone who goes to the store for bread and milk and comes home with dollars worth of groceries that probablhy do not include the above.

You have to say the word multiple times before the machine gets it, and even then it may come up with "enhiladas" when you are screaming "chips". I found that I have had to reenter most of the products I use with the names I call them and in my voice before the voice recognition would pick them up correctly. This has taken a lot of time, but it is paying off now as I now only have to say the name of the item once or twice to get it to go in.

"This book needs to go on a diet!" 2009-12-22
By Miss Margaret Picky (NYC)
Put Your Life On a Diet: Lessons Learned from Living in 140 Square Feet is a small book with 144 pages. Only about half of the content is specifically about living in a small house with the remainder being about how to reduce your impact on the planet, as the title implies. There aren't even photographs of the house. My overall impression is that this book was designed as a workbook for a seminar on the author's lifestyle philosophy and that the lessons were learned and then implemented by living in a small house rather than vice versa.

Ironically, this tiny book about living efficiently is very inefficient itself. It's a very quick read because in the 144 pages there is a lot of empty space and filler: double-page chapter titles, a couple of lined pages for notes at the end of each chapter, lots of quotes pulled from the text and blown up to fill an entire page as well as a lot of regular pull-quotes. I estimated (page-by-page) that the entire book would only fill 80 pages without all the fluff: an efficiency of approximately 55%!

The author is fond of the fairy-tale cottage fantasy rather than a modern look like the Micro Compact Home or even a retro-modern feel like an Airstream trailer. The titular 140 square foot house that he lived in is the hippie equivalent of a wooden, stick-built small Airstream except without plumbing and with customized storage. He even estimates the present cost of construction to be in the same price range and an Airstream is likely much more suitable for most people as a place to live.

It would be unkind but not untruthful to call his house a fancy version of the jerry-rigged, blue tarp houses of the uncounted millions who live in urban slums in South America, Africa, and Asia, but on wheels. He even hauls in his own water! Yet he's not a hypocrite and he admits that because he relies on shared services, his living space is really about 2,000 square feet.

Overall, the information is interesting and useful but there is nothing new here in the context of the simplicity theme that has flowered with the new millennium. While it is worth the hour or so it takes to read, this book probably does not merit a permanent place in your library. You could get the same lessons in a more forceful and graphic form from Material World: A Global Family Portrait.

 "Wanted more" 2009-07-06
By David M. Baldwin (jesup, georgia)
I wanted to hear more about what it is like to live in this confined spaced. The book has other information not necessary or related to living in a small space. Expected lots more for the space. I think part of living in a small space is having to pay less for housing too, and it doesnt seem that is happening.

"where are the lessons learned and why is this a self help workbook?" 2009-05-18
By Shane M. Maberry (Houston, Texas)
I picked up this book hoping to learn from the experiences of someone who has lived in a tiny house. However, there is very little written about the actual experience of living in a tiny house. Instead, the book is formatted in a quasi-self help workbook complete with cheesy 'action plan' lists. I'm giving it two stars since it isn't valuable enough to sacrifice tiny house bookshelf space. It's not awful, but it's hardly what anyone looking for wisdom would hope for. Someone who lives in a tiny house could shed light into optimal room layout, house placement, how to live with pets, having guests over, house building/buying, etc. All of this actually useful information is of course not mentioned. The author instead talks about using public bathrooms, eating out all the time, and getting up at 5 am. The resources listed in the back were also a letdown. This book should be titled "how to put your life on a diet: an action plan workbook."

Customer Buzz
 "Nothing new" 2009-05-11
By Jessica
This book is just a collection of assorted musings and reflections that is probably better suited for a blog or magazine article than an actual book. The content is a lot of the same tips for "decluttering" or "going green" you see over and over again. I wouldn't recommend buying the book (it's pretty short and can be read in one sitting) just check out the author's website. He refers to his site several times anyway, and even recommends that the reader Google certain topics to learn more, which I find somewhat annoying. I usually pick up a book expecting to learn about a topic in greater detail than what I would find online, so when the book tells me to go back to the internet, why the heck am I wasting time with the book?

At first I was interested and inspired by the author's unique and simple lifestyle. Then I learned that his tiny home sits on the same lot as his father and step-mother's large traditional home. I imagine it's a lot easier to live without electricity, and to view water service and toilet facilities as "unnecessary expenses and hassles" when the family home is fifty feet away. Almost as disappointing as when I read that Thoreau's mom delivered baked goodies to him every weekend when he lived on Walden Pond. I suspect that to achieve simplicity, one must sacrifice some independence. Perhaps the author can share his thoughts on this trade-off in a future book.

WOW, great book! i have been downsizing for quite awhile now and i learned SOOOOOO much more from this book than any other downsizing or unclutter book i have read (and i have read lots!). the most helpful was the part about uncluttering by taking advantage of the latest technologies and storing documents, important papers, collections, books, music, movies and more in digital format. every bit of those types of things that i own will ALL go onto whatever pda i choose (presently my choice is the apple ipod touch) in a space small enough to fit into my pocket!!! also there is great information on space management resources, outsourcing, and how to begin the often overwhelming feeling of getting started and making it stick! i also learned alot about food and actually some useful info on food dieting. a great all around book for anyone thinking of downsizing a little, alot or to the point of having only enough usable space in your living situation to make life simple, easy and affordable. for years my goal has been to enter retirement with only a large footlocker of my possessions. this book helped me eliminate and/or store into a smaller space more stuff than i ever thought possible!i highly recommend it!! my personal buzz word for 2009 is "SIMPLIFY".

Eat All Your Favorite Foods—And Watch the Pounds Disappear!
Two years after the runaway success of the original Eat This, Not That!, co-authors Matt and Dave noticed an interesting trend: Restaurants were actually cleaning up their menus! With consumers avoiding the country’s worst calorie offenses, some restaurants saw fit to remove them from the menu entirely. Consider this:

· After Chili’s Awesome Blossom took the runner-up spot on the “Worst Foods in America” list, Chili’s removed the appetizer from their menu entirely.
· Pepperidge Farm followed suit after being placed on the Worst Foods list and discontinued their Roasted Chicken Pot Pie.
· When Jamba Juice earned a citation on the Worst Drinks in America list, the chain stopped serving the largest size of their Chocolate Moo’d smoothie and recommitted itself to becoming one of the healthiest restaurant chains in the nation.

The problem is, as the old crop of calorie atrocities were eliminated, a new army of gut-bombs emerged in their place. That’s why the authors created Eat This, Not That! 2010, to empower you with the knowledge to battle a food industry bent on sabotage your waistline with unwanted and unnecessary calories. In this new-and-expanded edition, you’ll find fresh restaurant and supermarket comparisons, an encyclopedia of food packaging lies, and the invaluable guide to eating healthy on a budget. Essentially you’ll learn how to make effortless food swaps that will help you strip away 10, 20, 30 pounds or more.

Did you know:
· Choosing Prime Rib over Baby Back Ribs at Outback will save you more than 2,000 calories?
· You can save nearly 500 calories and more than 20 grams of fat just by ordering your banana split at Dairy Queen instead of Baskin-Robbins?
· A Stouffer’s White Meat Chicken Pot Pie has as much saturated fat as 6 scoops of ice cream? (Choose our alternative and save more than 900 calories!)

 "Great Time Saver" 2009-03-04
By Linny (Kentucky, USA)
This clear, consise, easy-to-use, low-carb recipe book by Leanne Ely, famed partner of the "Fly Lady" and host of SavingDinner.com, will not only save you time in preparing meals but also save you a lot of money at the grocery store. Of special help is the grocery list following each recipe.

Another thing I appreciate about this cookbook is that the recipes are of the "down home" variety. There are no weird-sounding recipes with equally bazaar and hard-to-find ingredients. These are delicious meals that your family will love.

 "A Low-Carber's Dream!" 2008-11-25
By Aelwyd Beethel
How often do we low-carbers find a treasure like this gem from the Dinner Diva herself, Leanne Ely? She's mastered the knack of combining her nutritionist's know-how with well-detailed cooking techniques and healthy ingredients to create the most appealing - and most used! - of any of my low-carb cookbooks. And she has organized its format to reflect seasonal offerings - a boon for the cost- and taste-conscious.

"Something for Everyone" should've been this cookbook's subtitle, and we're particularly fond of the Salmon Burgers with Dill Sauce, Happy Family Beef Stir-Fry, Sautéed Garlicky Spinach, and No-Hurry Crock Curry. One yummy new tip Leanne's taught me is that of making taco chips from low-carb tortillas (¡olé!).

For those of us who mind both calories AND carbs, yes, she's included both counts plus other nutritional data as well. Including this tantalizing tome in your cookbook arsenal will prove to be an excellent investment. Bon appétit!

 "'Diet' No More" 2009-04-01

I like to 'audition' my books before purchasing and borrowed it from the library first. Ms. Somer has the right attitude and great info on WHY we 'shoot ourselves in the foot' when it comes to losing weight (from now on referred to as GETTING HEALTHY.)

While stressing that ultimately WE have to take responsibility for our health, she tells us it not easy when we live in a 'toxic environment' and so many bad things are promoted so well, packaged so attractively and yes - taste so good! What she writes rings true; each of us who is overweight practices at least one of the habits. Ms. Somer tells you the probable source of the habit, in some cases the physiological reasons for it and offers plenty of solutions to help you change the habit.

One of my least favorite activities is keeping a food journal; I tried it before and it only made me more depressed (which, of course, lead to emotional eating). Even though she mentions it several times as a solution for starting to change a habit, thankfully she admits it's not for everyone and offers alternatives later in the book.

I've already recommended this to several friends.

Enjoy and be healthy!

"Great Advice to Help You Break Food's Grip!!" 2009-02-11
By K. Paul (Fort Greely, Alaska)
This book helped jump-start my quest to lose 25 pounds, it is a common sense approach to controlling your diet, instead of letting your diet control you. This book showed me how I had been lying to myself for years, it really has changed my whole perspective about eating, dieting, and exercising. The author teaches wonderful strategies to help combat the temptations faced when eating out, going to parties, and ways to bite back the late night munchies. I read it, lent it to my Mom, and bought a copy for one of my best friends. A Jewel among the basket of rhinestones that is dieting books today.

I gave it four stars because I think most food should be eaten in it's most unprocessed forms, and do not condone the use of fat content-altered products like lowfat/no-fat dairy, and soy products. However, this book is not a diet, so the rest of the information is great!

I checked this book out at the library and liked it so much I puchased it. Not anything I don't already know, but to see, in actual print, all the reasons why and how you cheat on a diet is much more motivational than you would think. Ouch! The truth really hurts but it's also really helped.

Finally, a book about diet that isn't a diet! Instead, it's a compilation of all the information about losing weight and keeping it off through lifestyle changes. Easy to read, nicely presented, this book set me on a one-year plan to lose those last 10 pounds -- one habit at a time.
